McKinney, Texas is home to this quaint wine tasting room. 

Agreeing that the wine industry was underexposed in Collin County, two wine enthusiasts, John Wales and Ron Ross, joined forces in 2003 to create a small wine tasting room and gift shop offering quality local wines to the community.  As exciting as it was at the time, the history of this venture began long before that. 

Ron, a winemaking hobbyist since the 1960s, had built a small boutique winery on his property at the Triple “R” Ranch in 2000, and had enjoyed making wine for family and friends.  John, who had planted the first commercial vineyard in Collin County in 1998, found himself in 2002 with a surprisingly full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon grape and no winery to process it – he was still in the process of building his winery.   So together with the facilities at the Triple “R” Ranch and the grapes from Wales Manor, John and Ron produced the first Collin County Cabernet Sauvignon.  Thus, Lone Star Wine Cellars was born. 

Visitors can enjoy a nice compliment of wines offered from both Wales Manor Winery & Vineyard and the Triple “R” Ranch & Winery.  Wales Manor presents a beautiful array of white wines starting with the delicately sweet Blanc du Bois – Sweet, all the way through to a rare white Reserve Blanc du Bois.  John also offers several reds boasting his beautifully full-bodied Reserve Merlot.  If your tastes lean more toward the reds, you may want to try some of the rich reserve wines produced at The Triple “R” Ranch and Winery labeled under the name “The Ranch Wines”.  Ron offers almost exclusively Reserve Wines ranging from light to medium-bodied Sangiovese and culminating with a pronounced “Big Red” Cabernet Sauvignon.  The only white produced at The Ranch is the award winning Whitetail Chardonnay.  Wines from these two north Texas wineries can be found, and are sold exclusively, through the Lone Star Wine Cellars and their shop located in historic downtown McKinney.

The Triple 'R' Ranch is a Texas exotic game ranch featuring hunting, fishing, & sight seeing for trophy axis, fallow, red and whitetail deer, as well as blackbuck antelope. The ranch also features a small winery producing fine reserve Texas wines. It's the perfect setting for a corporate retreat, your family vacation, a quiet get-away or a hunting expedition.

In addition to the magnificent grounds and beautiful countryside, you'll find nestled into this exotic game ranch, a small farm with Arabian horses, a herd of Texas longhorn cattle, chickens, ducks, and even geese scampering about. The quaint country cabin accommodates every possible need from a roaring fire to a bubbling spa. And for those of you who cannot be out of touch, fax capabilities and internet access are available. A small winery completes the magic of the ranch producing award winning reserve wines for the enjoyment of its guests. Triple "R" Ranch & Winery is one of the four Texas wineries that are licensed members of The Meritage Association, which was established in 1988.
